Barcode Verification & Validation

Barcode Verification Service

Uninterrupted supply chains are good for business. AIS barcode verification service offers manufacturers, printers and packaging designers a detailed analysis and grading of the print quality of their barcode images to ensure barcodes scan first time, every time helping foster strong trading relationships.

Testing assesses barcodes against established ISO and GS1 criteria and is carried out using state-of-the-art verification equipment. The analysis is done by trained and knowledgeable AIS personnel, who are best qualified to offer advice on barcode print quality, placement and best practices, in addition to advising on any remediation works necessary for non-compliant barcodes.

Verification will confirm whether a barcode is fully compliant with ISO/GS1 standards. You will receive a written report on the results of a verification test, identifying any inadequacies in the barcode and any potential problems with it.

AIS engineers have spent many years working with barcode verifiers and barcode verification standards and our expertise in this area is second to none. We also work with the world's leading manufacturer of barcode verification equipment, Label Vision Systems, based in Atlanta. LVS barcode verification systems are fully ISO compliant and the LVS 95xx products are the only 1D and 2D verifiers in the world to be GS1 Certified.

The Benefits of having your barcode symbols tested.

The biggest benefits of verification are reassurance and confidence that the barcode will perform as intended at all stages of the product’s movement down the supply chain, leading to untroubled supplier-customer relationships:

  • Reduced risk of print re-runs / wasted packaging and products.
  • Confidence that printed barcodes will scan first time, every time.
  • Improved read rates throughout the supply chain.
  • More efficient movement of stock through supply chain.

Many large-scale operations and government agencies require barcode verification to ensure error-free data entry. If you are complying with these standards, barcode verification is necessary to prevent fines and maintain the standing of your contract.

Products submitted for testing should be presented in their ‘final retail form’ together with loose labels or unformed packaging. We test the barcode for compliance to the GS1 standards through a testing process based on the ISO 15416 verification (testing) method. This method assesses size, colour, print quality and quiet zones (light margins). We also assess bar height and the location/placement of the barcode.

An LVS Barcode Verification Report is issued at the completion of testing. The report indicates the compliance of your barcode and, if necessary, suggests where you may need to make changes to meet GS1 and industry specifications.

If you need to get your barcode symbols verified by AIS Ireland simply submit a completed barcode verification application form, along with some actual product samples and the appropriate fee to AIS.

Why Verify Your Codes?

With barcoded product often making its way through mutiple scanning points along the supply chain, it is not uncommon for disputes to arise between suppliers and customers over the quality of printed barcodes. Many companies will impose fines to suppliers who supply them with product that is labelled with poorly printed or unreadable barcodes.
