Portable label printers are small devices that can be moved from one place to another and are often used away from the office. It is important to determine what features you require before deciding which model to buy.

These industrial models are made to be tough and have plenty of excellent features. They can print labels quickly without having to be connected to a computer.

The common features included with portable industrial label features include them being battery operated and often having rechargeable batteries. They usually have protective covering that protects them from damage should you drop them. The label and ribbon cartridges are easy to use and they have keyboard functionality built into them.

Other features that you want to look for when purchasing a portable label printer are:

Hotkeys: These are buttons that have been assigned special templates that assist the user when entering repetitive data. Common uses for hotkeys include patch panel labels and face plate labels. Some models will allow you to create your own hotkeys too.

Cutter: Cutters are essential and you need to make sure that the portable label printer you choose is equipped with one. This can be an automatic cutting action or a manual cutter where you have a plastic lever that you must pull to cut the labels.

Supplies: It is important to check what supplies are available for the portable label printer model you are purchasing. Cheaper models will often have a limited amount of media that can be used. Industrial portable label printers offer the greatest range of media in both colours and sizes. Some of the label types you can expect to find include standard adhesive labels, industrial adhesive labels, magnetic labels, heat shrink sleeve labels, and self lamination wire wraps.

Minimum and Maximum Label Sizes: Be sure to check on the size of labels you can print because different models can restrict the media width due to the cost of the print head or the size of the printer. It is important to check that the label printer you choose can accommodate your needs. You will need to look at the width of the label, height of the label, and more before you make your choice.

Available Add Ons: Are there are add ons that you can purchases for your label printer? Some items may not be required for the operation of your printer but they may be helpful at different times. These can include carry cases, additional supply cartridges in different colours and sizes, and magnetic attachments. Carry cases are great for when you’re working outdoors or need to take your label printer with you when you travel.
