Label application is very important and incorrectly applied labels not only look terrible but can have disastrous effects. There are a few things to think about before you start applying labels and here, our AIS experts are offering 5 simple label applicator steps.

Before we do that, it is worth looking at the difference between using label applicators and applying your labels by hand.

Label Applicators or Hand Application

There are pros and cons for each of these methods and there are some things to take into consideration before making your choice. These include:

  • Cost – the cost can differ depending on the specifics and size of your project. If you are applying hundreds or thousands of labels, label applicators, although more expensive, will work out cheaper in the long run by saving you a great deal of time. If you apply by hand you risk incorrect label application which can cost more when you have to print new label
  • Adhesive -  if you are going to apply labels by hand you will need to invest in re-positionable adhesive. With this, you have a short window of time where you can remove or reposition the label if you make a mistake.
  • Label applicators – these machines can vary in cost depending on the size and exactly what you need them to do. There is a lot of choice available as well as many different brands. If you are looking at label applicators the labelling speed is going to be of utmost importance. The common speed for standard machines is 100 units per minute. Larger production lines will really benefit from this.

Different Types of Label Applicators

There are a number of different types of label applicators you’ll come across and these are listed below.

  • Handheld Label Applicator: These machines are best suited to boxes or square products. They are easy to use and easy to transport. They can also create labels of varying specifications.
  • Manual Label Applicator: This is a stationary machine that is operated manually. It is best suited to smaller companies or those who aren’t ready for an automatic labelling machine. They are perfect if you need the precision not afforded with a handheld device.
  • Semi-Automatic Label Applicator: There is still some input required from an end user with this machine.
  • In-Line Automatic Label Applicator: This type of label applicator is fast and will quickly and consistently label your packaging. They are costly but if you have a large production process the cost is well worth it.
  • Rotary Label Applicator: This is the top end of the scale when it comes to label applicators and is the best for labelling consistency. They are not cheap but are the best when it comes to high-grade and high-speed labelling.

If you would like to know more about label applicators and the types of machines that will work for your production line, our AIS experts are always on hand to help. Get in touch with us today and let us help you choose the right label applicator for your business needs.
