Find out everything you need to know about Datalogic barcode scanners with our expert guide. From barcode scanner basics to Datalogic products, all you need is here.
Barcode scanners are devices that are used to capture and read information that has been encoded within a barcode. Before we look at the Datalogic barcode scanners, we are going to look at the three different types of scanning available. Knowing about these will help you choose the right scanner for your needs.
Laser Scanners
This type of barcode scanner reads 1D printed barcodes only. It can’t read 1D mobile barcodes or 2D barcodes. It can’t capture images either. A laser scanner works well on poor quality barcodes and there are Omni-directional models available. They are an affordable option for standard, good quality 1D printed barcodes only.
Linear Imager
This type of device reads 1D printed barcodes and 1D mobile barcodes. It can capture images but it won’t scan 2D barcodes. This device is mostly used for high density codes and they can also scan and read poor quality barcodes. Linear imagers are not omni-directional.
Digital Scanners/Array Imager
This device reads 1D and 2D printed barcodes as well as mobile barcodes. Most of them will also capture images. They do omni-directional scanning and work well on poor quality barcodes as well as those of high density. These devices can also be optimised to support data capture, OCR, direct part marks, and document capture.
